M. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, met with M. Magnus Brunner, European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, on September 23, 2025, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Strengthening Partnership Between Tunisia and the European Union

This meeting was an opportunity for both parties to reaffirm the importance of the partnership between Tunisia and the European Union and to explore ways to strengthen it in all areas, in anticipation of the upcoming Association Council between Tunisia and the European Union at the end of October. This meeting coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Association Agreement between Tunisia and the European Union this year.

Concerted Efforts to Manage Migration

Both parties also called for the need to combine efforts to achieve a concerted management of migration issues, with the aim of facilitating mobility and regular migration, consolidating the foundations of solidarity-based development, and addressing irregular migration through a comprehensive humanitarian approach.

Tunisian Approach to Migration Management

During the meeting, the relevance of the Tunisian approach to managing regular migration was highlighted, based on respect for international law and Tunisia's commitments, particularly through the development of voluntary return programs for migrants in irregular situations to their countries of origin, while respecting their dignity and enabling them to implement development projects.

European Appreciation for Tunisian Approach

The European Commissioner expressed the European institutions' appreciation for this approach and his availability to strengthen the existing partnership with the International Organization for Migration.
