Tunisia Reinforces Health Controls at Airports, Ports, and Land Borders
Tunisia has decided to strengthen health controls at airports, ports, and land borders as of this Friday, while strictly applying preventive protocols. This measure aims to ensure the speed of detection and intervention, and to protect national security.
This decision was made during a coordination meeting held at the Ministry of Health headquarters, which focused on monitoring the latest developments in the global epidemiological situation, particularly regarding the Ebola and Hanta viruses. The meeting was chaired by Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani, according to a ministry statement.
Representatives from the Ministries of National Defense, Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Transport, as well as officials from the Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA), and several experts from the Ministry of Health attended the meeting, the statement added.
A remote communication session was also held with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to exchange the latest data and emphasize the importance of rapid coordination in the event of a public health emergency.
The Ministry stated that after discussion and thorough examination, it was agreed that the risk of international transmission remains low. The focus will be on educating and raising awareness among travelers about modes of transmission and prevention methods, as well as preparing in all areas.
Health Minister Ferjani stressed that Tunisia is closely monitoring the situation and taking preventive measures before reaching the danger stage, thanks to early surveillance and coordination among all stakeholders.
