Ministry of Agriculture Issues Warning to Farmers and Herders
The Ministry of Agriculture released a warning statement on Tuesday, urging farmers and herders to take necessary precautions in light of the weather conditions forecasted by the National Institute of Meteorology (INM).
According to INM's predictions, thunderstorm cells accompanied by rain are expected to hit the north and, locally, the central part of the country starting this afternoon. These precipitation events will be temporarily intense in the northern governorates, with localized hail showers.
The rains are expected to continue on Wednesday, September 10, in the north and center, and intensify in the afternoon and early evening, particularly in the northern governorates and the Sahel region. The rainfall amounts could reach between 30 and 50 millimeters, with a continued risk of hail. Strong gusts of wind exceeding 80 km/h are also forecasted during the storms.
In the south, these winds could lead to sand and dust phenomena. The Ministry of Agriculture has urged farmers to protect their livestock, machinery, and agricultural equipment by sheltering them, away from wadi beds, and to check the solidity of greenhouses to limit damage from wind gusts.
