Minister of Equipment and Housing Emphasizes Need to Stop Phosphogypsum Disposal at Sea
The Minister of Equipment and Housing, Slah Zouari, highlighted the necessity to halt the disposal of phosphogypsum in the sea, create a controlled storage site, and work towards the circular valorization of this material during a plenary session at the Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP) on the situation in Gabès.
He added, in the same context, that phosphogypsum can be utilized in the manufacture of construction materials, relying on ongoing studies and research in this field, as well as similar experiences conducted in certain countries.
The Minister also indicated that experiments conducted in Tunisia have proven their effectiveness, as exemplified by the Taparura project, which enabled the transformation of this material into a natural space and the planting of various trees.
Finally, the Minister affirmed that environmental rehabilitation is entirely possible through controlled management of phosphogypsum use.
