Tunis Prepares to Celebrate 70th Anniversary of National Army with Exceptional Security Measures
This Sunday, May 17, 2026, Tunis will come alive with the traditional semi-marathon military event, marking the 70th anniversary of the creation of the National Army. To ensure the smooth organization of this major sporting event, the Ministry of the Interior has announced the deployment of an exceptional road security system.
Major Road Closures
Several key axes in the capital will be completely closed to traffic from 7:00 am until the end of the competition. The heart of the city and its eastern access points will be particularly affected.
- Avenue Habib Bourguiba will be closed to all types of vehicles between the Revolution Square and the TGM train station.
- The road connecting La Goulette to the TGM train station will also be closed, as well as the Radès-La Goulette bridge, which will be inaccessible during the competition.
Alternative Routes
To mitigate the impact of these closures, authorities have established several alternative routes to facilitate traffic flow.
- For drivers arriving from the northern suburbs who want to reach the city center, they will need to take the national road 9 (Tunis-La Marsa), turn off at the Cité El Khadhra interchange, and then cross Kheireddine Pacha Avenue and Liberty Avenue. Alternatively, they can use the Z4 route, cross the Republic Avenue bridge, and then head towards Moncef Bey Avenue or the southern suburbs.
- For those traveling from the southern suburbs, access to the city center will be via the Djellaz Square, Moncef Bey Avenue, and Saïd Zaghloul Street. To reach the northern part of the capital, the route will pass through the Saint-Gobain bridge, the Republic Avenue bridge, the Z4 route, and finally the national road 9.
- Drivers coming from the Radès port will need to take the Megrine ring road and then the Republic Avenue bridge.
- From Ariana, the northern suburbs will remain accessible via the national road 10, while the southern direction will require taking the Republic Avenue bridge towards Saint-Gobain.
Special Precautions for La Goulette Port Travelers
Travelers heading to the La Goulette port are advised to anticipate their journeys and avoid any delays. Those leaving the port are recommended to follow the route from Habib Bourguiba Avenue to Kheireddine Square, then take the Kram Fair road to the As-Salama interchange (or the Lake Shore road), and finally join the national road 9.
Ministry of the Interior's Appeal
The Ministry of the Interior urges all road users to exercise patience, civility, and respect for the instructions of on-site agents to ensure the safety of all. The Tunis-La Goulette road and the Radès-La Goulette bridge will be reopened progressively as the runners advance. For any additional information, two phone numbers have been made available to the public: 71.343.201 and 71.342.787.
