EU Ambassador to Tunisia to Hold Press Conference on Europe Day

Tunis, May 7, 2026 - The European Union Ambassador to Tunisia, Giuseppe Perroni, will hold a press conference on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Tunis, marking Europe Day. The event aims to review the state of bilateral relations and ongoing cooperation programs between the EU and Tunisia.

The press conference comes at a time when calls for a review of the partnership agreement are multiplying on both sides, with a view to establishing a more balanced and respectful framework for Tunisia's economic sovereignty.

As the EU's primary economic and commercial partner, Tunisia exports around 70% of its goods to the EU, particularly in the textile, mechanical, and electrical industries, as well as olive oil. This trend is confirmed by early 2026 indicators. European companies operating in Tunisia also contribute to the country's industrial fabric, creating thousands of jobs and facilitating technology transfer.

Several cooperation programs are currently underway in various fields, including:

  • Energy Transition: promoting the development of renewable energy sources and reducing Tunisia's dependence on fossil fuels.
  • Private Sector Promotion: supporting the growth of the private sector and enhancing its competitiveness on the European market.
  • Sustainable Development: implementing sustainable development projects and promoting environmental protection.
  • Technical and Financial Support for SMEs: providing assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enhance their competitiveness on the European market.

The press conference will also address sensitive issues such as:

  • Regular Migration: discussing the challenges and opportunities related to regular migration between the EU and Tunisia.
  • Skills Mobility: promoting the exchange of skills and expertise between the EU and Tunisia.
  • Security Cooperation: strengthening cooperation on security issues, particularly in the context of common challenges facing the Mediterranean region.
