Collision Between Two Metro Trains in Tunis: Human Error Cited as Cause
The CEO of the Tunis Transportation Company (Transtu), Abderraouf Salah, announced that human error is the cause of the collision between two metro trains that occurred two days ago at the Meftah Saadallah station in the capital.
According to the preliminary conclusions of the internal investigation, metro train number 3 collided with the rear of metro train number 5, while they were traveling on the same track. The impact resulted in 47 injuries, with all those affected immediately receiving medical attention and being evacuated to nearby hospitals, as stated by Salah during an interview on Jawhara FM radio.
The official indicated that most of the injured passengers were discharged from hospitals after receiving the necessary care. However, two cases required more extensive treatment: a Transtu internal security agent, who suffered an open fracture, underwent successful surgery and was transferred to La Rabta hospital for medical follow-up, and a passenger with a fractured ankle also underwent surgical intervention and is in a stable condition.
Salah added that the investigation is ongoing to determine the final responsibilities and prevent any recurrence. This incident has reignited the debate on the safety of Tunis's light metro network and the need to modernize signaling and control systems.
