Multidisciplinary Medical and Surgical Caravan Brings Healthcare to Kebili Region
A medical and surgical caravan, organized by the APS LIFE association under the patronage of the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Kebili Regional Health Directorate, the Tunisian Society of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Renal Transplantation, and the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of the Rabta Hospital, has provided numerous healthcare services and surgical interventions to the residents of the Kebili region.
This solidarity initiative included specialized medical consultations in nephrology, pediatrics, pediatric surgery, gynecology, and general medicine. Additionally, early detection campaigns for hypertension and diabetes were conducted, aiming to strengthen preventive services and bring healthcare closer to citizens in the interior regions.
The caravan also enabled the successful completion of 11 surgical interventions to create vascular access (fistulas) for patients suffering from renal insufficiency and requiring dialysis sessions, significantly improving their treatment conditions and medical care.
Moreover, the caravan witnessed a unique medical event at the regional level. For the first time in the Kebili governorate, three high-precision surgical interventions were performed under general anesthesia. This major breakthrough was perceived by supervisors as a concrete support to the capabilities of regional healthcare institutions and a reinforcement of equity in access to specialized care.
The organizers emphasized that this initiative highlights the importance of cooperation between public health structures and civil society components to support the healthcare system in interior regions, while anchoring the principle of the right to healthcare for all citizens.
