Regional Tourism Council of Médenine Governorate Holds Decisive Session

On Saturday, the Regional Tourism Council of Médenine Governorate convened a decisive session at the Djerba Midoun municipality headquarters, presided over by Tourism Minister Sofiane Tekaya. Several key decisions were made to shape the future of tourism in the region.

Integrating Artisanal Villages into the Regional Tourism Circuit

The Council approved the integration of Beni Khedache, Médenine, and Houmet Essouk artisanal villages into the regional tourism circuit. This move aims to promote local artisanal heritage and diversify the tourism offer beyond beach activities. The Council also decided to support the community society for pottery valorization and work towards registering certain ceramic products under intellectual property rights to protect this ancestral know-how.

Golf Course in Guellala and Pleasure Ports

The Council approved the revision of the study for creating a golf course in Guellala, while the Minister announced the launch of a nationwide study for creating pleasure ports to boost yachting tourism and attract high-end clientele to Tunisia's coastlines.

A First in Tunisia: All Médenine Municipalities Designated as Tourist Zones

The Council confirmed the imminent publication of a decree declaring all Médenine municipalities as tourist zones, a first in Tunisia. This measure opens the door to new investments and better regional tourism development planning.

Industry Professionals Call for Action

Tourism operators present at the session emphasized several priorities, including:

  • Site cleanliness
  • Continuity of services, particularly access to potable water
  • Treatment of closed hotels
  • Improvement of Djerba's water basins
  • Creation of a dedicated tourist and cultural circuit for UNESCO-listed sites

Green Sponsorship Agreements Signed

In conjunction with the session, green sponsorship agreements were signed between the Djerba Midoun municipality and several tourist establishments to beautify tourist areas. The session was attended by the Médenine governor, a ministerial delegation, deputies, and industry professionals.
