Tunisian Consumer Information Organization (OTIC) Denounces Excessive Price Hikes

The Tunisian Organization for Consumer Information (OTIC) denounced on Monday the excessive surge in red meat prices, despite the existence of maximum tariffs set by the authorities. It called for the implementation of genuinely regulated prices, accompanied by rigorous controls.

In a statement, OTIC noted that the price of one kilogram of local lamb is often sold far beyond the legal ceiling of 40 dinars, while the price of local beef frequently exceeds the fixed 32 dinars. This situation, according to the organization, severely affects the purchasing power of households and requires urgent intervention from public authorities.

OTIC is advocating for stricter price controls on red meat and enhanced field inspections to ensure a tangible impact on consumers' budgets.

Moreover, the organization also alerted to the increase in internet service tariffs, accompanied by a significant decline in quality. It calls for rapid regulation of the sector to guarantee a fair, transparent, and user-expectation-conforming service.
