Tunisian Authorities Seize Over 46 Tonnes of Food Products

Tunisian authorities have seized more than 46 tonnes of food products, mainly poultry meat and its derivatives, as well as products used in the manufacture of ice cream and confectionery, announced Mohamed Rabhi, President of the National Institute for Sanitary Security of Food Products, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Details of the Seized Products

During an intervention on National Radio, Rabhi specified that these products included:

  • Pasta
  • Poultry and red meat
  • Dried fruits
  • Marinated products
  • Food colorants

The official added that fruits stored in unsanitary conditions, such as strawberries, dates, and apples, had also been confiscated. Furthermore, smuggled confectionery products containing colorants were seized, all as part of control operations aimed at protecting consumer health.

Call to Citizens and Establishment Closures

Mohamed Rabhi called on citizens to refrain from buying food products of unknown origin, highlighting the health risks associated with these products. As part of this operation, the authorities also closed:

  • 10 ice cream manufacturing and sales establishments
  • 3 shops specializing in the sale of poultry meat and its derivatives
  • Several restaurants that did not comply with sanitary standards

This crackdown aims to ensure the safety and quality of food products available to consumers in Tunisia.
