Tunisian Authorities Crack Down on Drug Trafficking Networks
Multiple Arrests and Seizures in Ettadhamen, Ben Arous, and Sfax
A patrol from the Judicial Research Brigade in Ettadhamen (Ariana Governorate) arrested five individuals, aged 18 to 39, from the same neighborhood and seized five plastic bags containing a suspicious white powder, three pieces of cannabis, and two motorcycles, according to a security source speaking to TAP news agency on Sunday.
Following consultation with the prosecutor's office, it was decided to place the suspects in custody for possession and trafficking of substances for consumption and trafficking.
In parallel, a joint patrol of the Research and Investigation Brigade and the Judicial Research Brigade of the National Guard in Ben Arous, supported by Rapid Intervention Units, dismantled a criminal network active in drug trafficking in El Medina Eljadida (New Medina). The operation allowed for the apprehension of six people, aged 34 to 44, living in the region, as well as four individuals wanted in common law cases and sentenced to prison terms of up to 16 years.
According to the same source, the agents seized a packet of cannabis, a quantity of suspicious white powder, psychotropic tablets of the Lexomil type, and a light truck used by the network members for transportation.
The prosecutor ordered their continued detention for the formation of a suspected criminal network accused of possession, consumption, transportation, and trafficking of narcotics.
In the same context, the Judicial Research Units of the National Guard in Sfax and the Rapid Intervention Units arrested three individuals, aged 27 to 42, from the region, who were active in drug trafficking.
This operation allowed for the seizure of four plastic bags containing a white powder suspected to be cocaine, pieces of cannabis of different sizes, a vehicle, and a sum of approximately 65,000 dinars.
The prosecutor ordered the suspects to be placed in custody for possession, consumption, and trafficking of narcotics.
