Imported Lamb Meat Retail Point Opens in Manouba Municipal Market

A retail point for imported lamb meat was inaugurated on Saturday at the Manouba municipal market, offering the meat at a fixed price of 38,900 dinars per kilogram. This initiative, implemented by the municipality in partnership with the Meat Society and the International Lands Office, is part of the national efforts to combat speculation, monopoly, and price hikes while reorganizing distribution channels.

Inauguration and Supervision

The opening of the retail point took place under the supervision of the regional governor, Mahmoud Chaïeb, and local authorities. According to the municipality's secretary general, Fathi Derwaz, there was a significant turnout of citizens on the first day, highlighting the need to maintain this initiative on a permanent basis.

Partnership and Responsibilities

The municipality provides the market premises and ensures the supply of imported meat, while the International Lands Office is responsible for distribution and sales. The Meat Society has also supplied a commercial space in the city of Manouba at the same price, with additional retail points planned soon, aiming to improve consumer access to meat and protect their purchasing power against high prices practiced by butchers.

Quality Control and Surveillance

The economic control services of the Regional Trade Directorate and the municipal police will monitor the retail point, ensuring compliance with sanitary standards. This measure aims to guarantee the quality of the meat and prevent any potential health risks.
