Road Rehabilitation Works Continue in Tebourba, Manouba Governorate

Road 525 Rehabilitation Works Underway in Tebourba

The rehabilitation works on certain sections of the local road 525 in Tebourba, Manouba Governorate, are ongoing. This 2-kilometer road, divided into five sections, connects the Tebourba delegation to the Ansarine, Waqfaya, and Mellaha delegations. The total cost of the project is estimated at 1.9 million dinars, according to the regional equipment department.

According to the same sources, the difficulties that led to a delay in the project's implementation have been overcome. The ongoing intervention aims to repair the most degraded sections in the first phase, as part of an initial program inscribed in the 2026-2030 development plan. This approach is pending the mobilization of necessary funds for the complete rehabilitation of the road, which spans approximately 15 kilometers.

Studies conducted by the Ministry of Equipment since 2018 estimated the global cost of the repairs at over 18 million dinars. After updating, this amount now reaches nearly 35 million dinars, reflecting the scope of the required works.

The project also includes, in its initial phase, the construction of hydraulic works to facilitate vehicle passage at the level of wadis and protect the affected sections from flooding, which often causes significant damage to the road surface. In the long term, these arrangements should be completed by the construction of a bridge over the El Maleh wadi, as well as the installation of concrete canals and other hydraulic infrastructure, as part of a global program.

While the start of the works was welcomed by the inhabitants and local council members, who have been waiting for this intervention for several years, concerns have been expressed about their impact on the overall state of the road. According to Tebourba local council president Zied Daaji, the concentration of works on priority sections, combined with frequent passage of trucks and construction equipment, has contributed to accentuating the degradation of other parts of the road.

In response to this situation, local authorities have contacted the governor and relevant services to find urgent solutions to limit damage and prevent further deterioration of the road surface. Some users have even called for the suspension of works, fearing additional deterioration that could further complicate traffic in the coming months.

On behalf of the inhabitants, the local council president has also pleaded for an acceleration of the mobilization of necessary funds for the complete rehabilitation of the road, inscribed in the 2026-2030 development plan proposals. He emphasized that this project is a priority for the affected rural populations, who aspire above all to better mobility conditions and easier access to public transportation services.

It is worth noting that Road 525 has already benefited from several punctual interventions, including the repair of potholes and treatment of damage caused by El Maleh wadi floods. Measures to improve road safety have also been implemented, including the installation of vertical and horizontal signage, correction of certain slopes limiting visibility, and installation of safety barriers equipped with reflective devices.
