Earthquake of Magnitude 5.3 on the Richter Scale Hits Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale struck the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia today, adding to the region's intense seismic activity.

According to the Russian Geophysical Research Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 111 kilometers from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 47.6 kilometers. Although the shock was felt, its intensity only reached 3 on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale in inhabited areas. Fortunately, no tsunami alert was issued, and no casualties or major damage were reported.

This earthquake is part of a context of increasing seismic activity in Kamchatka. The region was indeed hit by a powerful earthquake of magnitude 8 on July 30, the strongest since 1952.
