French President Emmanuel Macron Calls for Diplomatic Solution to De‑Escalate Tensions
Paris, 8 March 2026 – French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday, 8 March 2026, that a diplomatic solution is “more necessary than ever” to halt the current escalation and preserve peace.
Macron made the statement in a post published on the social‑media platform X after a telephone conversation with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian.
In his message, President Macron reiterated France’s deep concern over the development of Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. He also urged Iran to ensure freedom of navigation by ending the de‑facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
French news channel BFMTV reported that President Macron also spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday.
