Approaching Ramadan 2026: Red Meat Availability and Prices Remain Top Concerns for Tunisian Households
As the holy month of Ramadan 2026 draws near, the availability and price of red meat are among the main worries of Tunisian families. Mohamed Bahri Gabsi, the delegated administrator of the Société des Courses (Société Ellouhoum), announced on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 that locally produced ovine and bovine meat is available in sufficient quantities to meet demand throughout the entire Ramadan period.
Fixed Sale Price
- Price: 42.9 TND per kilogram
- Coverage: 17 sales points managed by the company and the Office of State Lands (Office des Terres Domaniales – OTD)
This initiative aims to guarantee a steady market supply and to offer price‑controlled options, thereby protecting consumers’ purchasing power.
Distribution of Red‑Meat Sales Points
Speaking on Radio Nationale, Gabsi detailed the locations of the sales outlets.
Société Ellouhoum
| Sales Point | Location |
|---|---|
| Central sales point | El Ouardia |
| Central Market | Tunis |
| Commercial space | Avenue de la Liberté |
Office of State Lands (OTD)
The OTD has mobilised 14 “producer‑to‑consumer” points of sale spread across several regions of the country. This network reduces intermediaries and allows controlled tariffs during the sacred month.
Sufficient Stocks and Strengthened Supply
Gabsi reassured citizens that stock levels are ample and that there is no need to turn to parallel markets that charge excessive prices. He emphasized that the company is ready to launch immediate slaughter operations at any time to meet sudden spikes in demand.
Additional Supply Phases
- Mid‑Ramadan: Extra quantities will be released onto the market.
- 27th‑night (Laylat al‑Qadr): A further injection of red meat is planned, as this night traditionally sees a sharp increase in consumption.
Through this coordinated framework, authorities aim to ensure a regular supply of locally sourced red meat and to stabilise prices throughout Ramadan 2026.
