ESS Continues to Slip: 5th Away Loss in Ligue 1
The Press - The ESS has suffered its 12th defeat of the season, with 9 losses in the championship, 2 in the CAF Cup, and 1 in the Cup. This is too many for a club of Etoile's caliber. What's most intriguing is the lack of reaction from the Etoile Board, which continues to trust the same individuals despite the poor results.
A 9-Year Drought
The Etoile has not won a single match in Métlaoui since 2013, and the streak continues. The consequences of this defeat are significant. The team's and technical staff's resignation is evident. The club is no longer advancing and remains stuck in 6th place.
In the Shadow of Gbo...
The defense is largely responsible for this defeat, but the midfield, unable to restart the ball forward, is also to blame. Mokhles Chouchane lost the ball after a poorly negotiated dribble, leading to Métlaoui's goal. The absence of key players, such as Ben Choug and Gbo, was felt. In defense, Sabri Ben Hassen is no longer counting the goals conceded match after match and was even replaced by Landolsi. Chaâbani had a missed chance from a header, while Rayan Anen went through a phase of uncertainty and became less effective on the wings.
Nafkha on the Hot Seat
Nafkha is now under pressure, especially after losing to another former Etoile player, Imed Ben Younès, despite winning the first leg. He again admitted that the opponent was superior, better prepared, and did not allow Etoile to deploy its game plan. Much water has flowed under the bridge since then, as the club is going through one of the worst seasons in its history since the 1992-1993 season, when it narrowly avoided relegation.
