First Edition of Workshop on "Water and Sustainability: Treatment Technologies and Strategies"
The first edition of a workshop on the theme "Water and Sustainability: Treatment Technologies and Strategies" will be held on November 8 and 9 in Hammamet, in a context of acute water stress in Tunisia, where the share of water resources per inhabitant is now below the threshold of scarcity.
Event Organization
This event is organized by the Tunisian Desalination Association (ATD), in collaboration with the Desalination and Water Treatment Laboratory of the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis and the EcoChimie Laboratory of the National Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (INSAT).
Objective
The workshop aims to address the growing challenges related to water resources, as data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources indicates that the availability of water per Tunisian has fallen below 400 m³ per year, a level below the critical threshold of scarcity, set at 500 m³. This situation is attributed to climate change and the recurrence of droughts.
Workshop Axes
The workshop will cover several major axes, including:
- Desalination of water and reduction of its energy cost thanks to renewable energies
- Reuse of treated water in irrigation and industry within the framework of the circular economy
- Water governance and sustainable policies for managing resources at national and local levels
Expected Participants
Experts, researchers, and engineers from universities, public and private institutions, as well as representatives of government agencies and international organizations concerned with the water and environment sectors are expected to attend this workshop.
