Leoni Tunisia Announces Official Production of Its Own Energy, Reducing Electricity Bill by $9.1 Million, Approximately 40% Annually

A ceremony for the signing of a partnership contract between Leoni Tunisia, a specialist in automotive wiring, and "Empower New Energy", a Norwegian company financing and developing solar projects in Africa, took place on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Tunis. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Norwegian Ambassador to Tunisia, as well as representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Tunisia.

Partnership Details

Under this agreement, "Empower New Energy", in partnership with AR Solaire, a company specializing in the design, installation, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems, will support Leoni Tunisia in implementing an ambitious photovoltaic program covering all 10 of its strategic sites across the country (one project in Manzel Hayet, one in Kalâa Lekbira, three in Mateur, and five in Messaâdine). The partnership will also ensure the maintenance and operation of the installations for 10 years. The total cost of this project amounts to $9.16 million.

Commitment to Sustainable Energy Transition

This partnership reflects Leoni Tunisia's commitment to a sustainable energy transition, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint, improve energy efficiency, and decarbonize its activities. It also reflects a shared commitment to a sustainable energy transition based on innovation, performance, and reliability.

Project Objectives

Through this photovoltaic production project, Leoni Tunisia aims to ensure local solar electricity production to reduce its production sites' dependence on fossil fuels and further strengthen its positioning while remaining competitive in the face of the energy transition.

Project Specifications

The project, which will start immediately, has a power equivalent to 7.5 MWp and a production capacity of 12.4 MW/an, equivalent to the annual absorption of thousands of trees or the planting of a forest of nearly 400,000 trees over 25 years.

Reaction from Leoni Tunisia's General Manager

On this occasion, Leoni Tunisia's General Manager, Mohamed Larbi Rouis, expressed his enthusiasm and commitment: "We are very proud because we were the first to sign such an agreement in Tunisia. This partnership also reflects our environmental concerns and our willingness to reduce the carbon tax and decrease our electricity bill." He further specified that before reaching this contract, a reflection, analysis, evaluation, and identification of the project's strengths were carried out over more than 18 months.
