At least 12 people were killed on Friday in Israeli strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon – the deadliest attacks in the country since November.
- Bekaa Valley (east) – Israeli strikes on several locations in the valley resulted in 10 deaths and 24 injuries, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Among the wounded were three children.
- Aïn el‑Hélou refugee camp (south) – Earlier in the day, two people were killed by an Israeli strike in the Palestinian refugee camp of Aïn el‑Hélou, the ministry added.
Background
- In November 2023, 13 people were killed in Aïn el‑Hélou during an Israeli raid. The United Nations called for an investigation, noting that 11 of the victims were children.
- The southern Lebanon cease‑fire agreement came into force on 27 November 2024, stipulating the withdrawal of Israeli forces from border villages and localities within 60 days.
- The Lebanese government later extended this deadline to 18 February 2025, but Israeli forces remain stationed at five points and continue violating the cease‑fire in southern Lebanon.
