Tunisia Launches National Food Security Surveillance Platform
Tunisia has launched the national food security surveillance platform, foodsecurity.tn, a digital space designed to gather data and indicators related to food security and strengthen coordination between various stakeholders.
The Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Hamadi El Habib, stated that food security represents a national priority and a strategic pillar for sustainable development and national sovereignty. He emphasized that recent global crises have highlighted the need to establish a comprehensive national food security surveillance system, based on accurate and up-to-date data, to effectively guide public policies.
During the opening of the national workshop on food security, held in the capital on Thursday, Hamadi El Habib stressed that achieving food sovereignty requires a comprehensive approach, including the development of local production, rationalization of water resource exploitation, improvement of strategic stock governance, and encouragement of research and investment in modern crops and technology.
The Secretary of State reaffirmed the Ministry of Agriculture's commitment to continuing to support national food security strategies by 2030 and 2035, with a vision to build a sustainable and inclusive food system, ensuring Tunisia has safe food and a stable future.
It is worth noting that the workshop was organized with the participation of representatives from the World Food Programme (WFP), the technical cooperation coordinator of the Principality of Monaco in Tunisia, the Bizerte Development Pole, the National Observatory of Agriculture, and several national structures.
