Successful Ablation of Cardiac Arrhythmia in a 34-Day-Old Infant
The cardiology team at La Rabta University Hospital has successfully performed an ablation of a cardiac arrhythmia in a 34-day-old infant using three-dimensional (3D) electro-anatomical mapping technology. This makes the infant the youngest patient in North Africa to undergo this cutting-edge procedure.
Procedure Details
The operation was led by Professor Sanaâ Wali, head of the cardiac rhythm modulation unit, under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Sami Mourali, and in coordination with Professor Fatma Warda, responsible for pediatric cardiology.
Context and Approach
This intervention was carried out as part of a three-day workshop focused on treating resistant arrhythmias and complex congenital heart defects. The success of the procedure relies on a multidisciplinary approach, involving adult and pediatric cardiology, anesthesia and intensive care, clinical pharmacy, and radiology, ensuring precise, safe, and effective treatment.
Medical Achievement and Implications
This medical achievement reflects the continuous development of cardiology in Tunisia and demonstrates the ability of Tunisian teams to master the most advanced technologies worldwide. The successful use of 3D electro-anatomical mapping technology in such a young patient underscores the hospital's commitment to providing innovative and high-quality care.
