North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un Pays Condolences at Russian Embassy

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, accompanied by several high-ranking officials, visited the Russian embassy to pay his condolences following the death of long-time Russian ambassador Alexander Matsegora, according to official media.

"It is a great sorrow and immense loss to lose the ambassador at a time when we are embarking on a historically significant stage in the development of relations between the two countries," Kim said at the embassy, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

This visit, which took place on Wednesday, "underscores the depth of relations between North Korea and Russia," KCNA reported. Kim laid "flowers at the embassy and observed a minute of silence in mourning for Matsegora."

The agency also separately reported that other leaders, including high-ranking military official Pak Jong Chon, had also visited the embassy.
