Inventory Operation of "Kharjet Sidi Ali Azzouz" Launched in Zaghouan

An inventory operation of the "Kharjet Sidi Ali Azzouz" was launched yesterday in Zaghouan, with the aim of inscribing it in the national list of intangible cultural heritage, announced the Al-Nasri Festival Association on its official Facebook page.

Objective and Collaboration

This initiative is the result of a close collaboration between the Center of Arts, Culture, and Letters "Al-Qasr Al-Saïd", the Regional Delegation of Cultural Affairs of Zaghouan, and the Al-Nasri Festival Association. The goal is to preserve and enhance the material and intangible heritage of the city, while giving it national visibility to ensure its perpetuity for future generations.

Inventory and Supervision

The inventory was supervised by Sawsan Langliz, heritage conservator advisor, with the participation of several civil society actors, including the Association for the Preservation of the City, the "Zaghouan Futur" Association, as well as sheikhs and personalities of the Azouzia tariqa, among them Riyad Mellaf, Moaz Chtiba, and Béchir Bouawwab.

The Kharjet Sidi Ali Azzouz

The Kharjet Sidi Ali Azzouz is a spiritual procession linked to the Azouzia tariqa, founded by the saint and jurist Sidi Ali Azzouz, of Moroccan origin, who settled in Tunisia under the rule of the Mouradites. His tomb is located in Zaghouan. This ceremony takes place twice a year: on the 27th night of the month of Ramadan and on the night of the Prophet's birth, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the country to participate in religious and social celebrations.

Request for Inventory

The Al-Nasri Festival Association had already officially submitted a request for inventory of this cultural element on November 1, 2024, to highlight the rich heritage of Zaghouan. This approach is part of the national efforts to annually inventory the intangible cultural heritage in Tunisia, to preserve national memory and enhance cultural diversity and regional specificities.
