Tunisia Engaged in All-Out War Against Narcotraffickers, Says Interior Minister

The Tunisian Interior Minister, Khaled Nouri, affirmed that Tunisia is engaged in a genuine war against narcotraffickers, in response to inquiries from deputies during the examination of the special mission budget of the Ministry of the Interior for the 2026 fiscal year.

Security Strategy to Combat Narcotrafficking

The Minister explained that his department is deploying a two-pronged security strategy to combat this scourge.

  • The first aspect relies on a proactive approach, focused on early detection of drug trafficking routes and networks, as well as identifying entry points used by dealers at Tunisian borders.
  • The second aspect aims to dismantle criminal networks through the regular launch of large-scale security campaigns.

Recent Anti-Drug Operations

Nouri highlighted that security forces have seized large quantities of narcotics, proof, according to him, of the considerable efforts made by security units to counter this threat to Tunisian society.

Protection of Schools and Universities

The Minister also mentioned the protection of school and university environments, a major concern for parents. He assured that the Ministry continues to mobilize significant human and logistical resources to ensure a permanent security presence around educational institutions, with the aim of preventing incivilities and threats to security and public morals.

Management of Weather-Related Events and Climate Change

Regarding the management of weather-related events and the effects of climate change, Nouri indicated that he has given instructions to governors to strengthen prevention and rapid response mechanisms, in anticipation of the rainy season and extreme weather phenomena.

Maintenance of Public Order

On the aspect of maintaining public order, the Minister emphasized the consolidation of national security, particularly in the field of cybersecurity, which has become an essential pillar of protecting the state's institutions and vital interests.

Cybersecurity: A National Priority

He recalled that Tunisia, like many countries, is not immune to emerging cyber threats, and that growing challenges in this area require greater vigilance, coordination, and strengthening of national capacities. Nouri called on the various stakeholders to work together to establish an integrated national cybersecurity system, capable of addressing cybercrime risks, protecting digital sovereignty, and, by extension, the sovereignty of the Tunisian state.
