Water Cuts Continue to Plague Residents of El Kef
Residents of certain neighborhoods in the city of El Kef are still complaining about prolonged water cuts, which have had a negative impact on their daily lives and certain economic activities that require continuous access to potable water. The inhabitants of neighborhoods such as Monji Slim Street are frustrated by these constant cuts, despite promises from the Tunisian Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE) to provide radical solutions this summer to end the water crisis that has been affecting residents of the city for several years.
In a statement to a journalist from the Tunis Afrique Press (TAP) agency, Rym El Maachawi, a member of the People's Representatives Assembly, indicated today, Wednesday, that the potable water crisis in El Kef is not yet over, despite the company's promises and assurances since May. She added that, in her opinion, this crisis will only end after the completion of the connection of all deep wells constructed in the Bir Anakhla region, in the Tajerouine delegation, to the city's water distribution network. This operation is facing several delays due to the non-renewal of the outdated distribution network and opposition from some citizens to the passage of potable water pipes on their land, according to her statements.
However, she emphasized that, despite the persistent cuts in certain neighborhoods, the overall situation of potable water in El Kef has seen a slight improvement, particularly after the connection of one of the wells located in the Borouak 4 region, in the Tajerouine delegation, to the main reservoir of the Hachad neighborhood in the city of El Kef. This connection has allowed for the supply of approximately 27 additional liters per second, which has directly benefited the city's inhabitants, as previously explained by Hajer Bhiri, regional director of SONEDE in El Kef, in a statement to TAP.
