Rainfall Quantities in Kasserine Governorate Beneficial for New Agricultural Season

The rainfall quantities recorded in the Kasserine governorate during the months of August and September are very beneficial for the new agricultural season, particularly for cereal crops, according to Abbès Hajji, Head of the Cereal Crops Department at the Regional Commissioner for Agricultural Development, in a statement to the TAP Agency.

Cereal Crop Areas in the Region

The programmed cereal crop areas in the region this year amount to 85,000 hectares, including:

  • 80,000 hectares of rain-fed crops
  • 5,000 hectares of irrigated crops These areas are divided between:
  • 27,500 hectares for durum wheat
  • 52,500 hectares for barley (rain-fed)
  • 1,500 hectares for durum wheat
  • 3,500 hectares for barley (irrigated)

Regional Needs for Seeds and Fertilizers

The region's needs for selected seeds are estimated at 6,300 quintals, as well as:

  • 30,000 quintals of fertilizer
  • 4,000 tons of ammonium nitrate
  • 2,000 tons of DAP, according to the same source.
