President of the Republic, Kais Saied, Receives High-Level Delegation
President Kais Saied of Tunisia received a high-level delegation on Monday, November 17, at the Carthage Palace, comprising Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, Director-General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), and Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and UN Special Envoy for the fight against Islamophobia.
Discussion Focuses on Cultural and Civilizational Issues
The meeting centered on various cultural and civilizational issues in a global context marked by rapid changes. President Saied emphasized that no hierarchy should exist between nations or civilizations, stating that the world is undergoing a profound transformation phase that necessitates abandoning outdated concepts.
Emphasis on Shared Human Values
He affirmed that any partnership or alliance must be based on shared human and universal values. Those who continue to advocate for the clash of civilizations, attacking Islam or other peoples, are now "denied by reality," he added, considering that history will ultimately confirm their marginalization.
Call for Justice, Liberty, and International Legitimacy
President Saied also recalled that justice and liberty must not only prevail within states but also constitute the foundations of the international community. The division of peoples into "civilized" and "barbaric" categories is, in his view, a form of racist discrimination inherited from colonial patterns, responsible for tragedies, wars, and the plundering of oppressed peoples' resources. He reiterated that a new international legitimacy is emerging, bearing values of freedom, justice, and emancipation.
