Over 1,200 Citizens Benefit from Multidisciplinary Medical Caravan in Hajeb El Ayoun

On Saturday, more than 1,200 citizens from the Hajeb El Ayoun delegation in the Kairouan governorate benefited from the services of a multidisciplinary medical caravan. Organized by the Hajeb El Ayoun health district under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and in coordination with the Kairouan Regional Health Directorate, this initiative embodies the ministry's policy of improving the quality of healthcare services and bringing them closer to citizens in various regions.

According to Dr. Djamel Merabet, Regional Director of Health in Kairouan, in a statement to Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), this caravan covered over 95% of the available medical and surgical specialties in Tunisia. It was distinguished by the supervision and guidance of university professors, a team of top doctors, and hospital chiefs from the Sousse Faculty of Medicine and Kairouan hospitals, in coordination with the former dean of the Sousse Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Hédi Khairi.

He added that a medical and paramedical staff of over 150 officials from the public and private sectors, as well as supporting doctors from neighboring governorates of Sidi Bouzid and Kasserine, ensured the services of this free caravan. The event witnessed a massive turnout from the residents, who welcomed this initiative.

To facilitate the handling of the large influx of citizens, consultations were divided among four strategic sites in the city: the local hospital in Hajeb El Ayoun, the health district headquarters, the "2 Mars" primary school, and the secondary school in the region.

Dr. Djamel Merabet estimated that the caravan "achieved its humanitarian objectives by restoring smiles and satisfaction to citizens." He highlighted its concrete role in alleviating the burden of travel and the difficulties of traveling to university hospitals in other governorates, while allowing healthcare structures to identify and follow up on cases requiring continuous medical care.

The caravan offered free consultations covering over 30 medical specialties, including cardiology, pediatrics, general surgery, gynecology-obstetrics, medical imaging, rheumatology, dermatology, and gastroenterology.

In addition to the record-breaking turnout in ophthalmology and cardiology services, the caravan focused on preventive activities by conducting screenings for hypertension and breast cancer. These actions were reinforced by a mobile mammography unit provided by the Regional Directorate of the National Office of Family and Population (ONFP) for the benefit of women in the region.

On this occasion, the Regional Director of Health announced the organization of a national surgical caravan on May 23 in various governorates of the Republic, including Kairouan, with the aim of performing over 1,000 cataract surgeries for patients affected by the condition.
