President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, Receives Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received Mr. Fethi Zouhir Nouri, Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, on Monday, October 6, at the Carthage Palace.

Discussion on Financial Analysis and Money Laundering

During the meeting, the Head of State discussed the role of the Tunisian Committee for Financial Analysis in the fight against money laundering and illicit money transfer. He condemned the fact that large sums of money are being transferred from abroad in secret, while others are being laundered or transferred illicitly, benefiting certain individuals or entities - whether banking or non-banking - without control or verification.

Call to End Illicit Practices

The President of the Republic emphasized that these practices must cease, as they not only contravene national legislation but also international conventions and treaties. He also stated that many practices and offenses must also cease immediately, specifying that the problem lies not only in the laws, despite their shortcomings, but also in their application. Those responsible for enforcing them must, he insisted, fully assume their obligations.

Role of the Central Bank in Supporting the National Economy

In another context, the Head of State reaffirmed the role of the Governor and the Central Bank of Tunisia in supporting the national economy, recalling that it is a Tunisian public institution, "endowed with independence but not absolute independence".

Economic Results and Challenges

The President of the Republic also welcomed the results achieved thanks to national economic choices, particularly in terms of controlling inflation, stabilizing the exchange rate, and maintaining foreign exchange reserves. He estimated that these figures are important and deserve to be highlighted, while reminding that they must be concretely translated into the daily lives of citizens and reflected in all areas.
