President Kaïs Saïed Visits the Zitouna Mosque to Mark the Beginning of Ramadan
On Wednesday evening, President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed went to the historic Zitouna Mosque in Tunis, where he addressed the Tunisian people and the entire Islamic ummah on the occasion of the sacred month of Ramadan.
In a televised speech – a video excerpt of which was released by the Presidency of the Republic – the head of state highlighted the spiritual purpose of fasting, stating that:
“Fasting is not limited to abstaining from what Allah has forbidden for a set period; it is primarily meant to purify souls and elevate them.”
A Call for Authentic Spirituality
President Saïed urged citizens to use this blessed month as an opportunity to embrace the true values of fasting, “far from any artificiality or meaningless practice.” He called for:
- Moral uplift and the overcoming of trivialities.
- Avoidance of all forms of misguidance, ostentation, stagnation, and falsehood.
Solidarity and Social Cohesion
The president stressed that solidarity and social cohesion are essential during Ramadan. He argued that:
“Improving the country’s situation cannot be the work of a single group; it must involve all components of society.”
He added a vivid analogy, quoting the Qur’an:
“A body cannot be healthy if one of its parts is sick; likewise, a society cannot prosper if some of its members live in poverty or deprivation.”
Support for the Palestinian People
President Saïed also prayed to God for victory for the Palestinian people, so they may establish an independent state with Al‑Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
Ramadan Begins in Tunisia
Tunisians will begin the first day of Ramadan this Thursday, after the Mufti of the Republic announced that Wednesday completed the month of Sha‘ban, due to the non‑observation of the lunar crescent.
