President Kais Saied: Tunisia Has Repaid Its Debts On Time
President Kais Saied of Tunisia has announced that the country has repaid its debts in full and within the allotted timeframe, despite facing a difficult economic situation and limited benefits for the population. He reiterated the state's intention to rely on its own resources and reject any foreign interference, in response to growing calls for international intervention.
This statement was made on Wednesday during a meeting at the Carthage Palace with Prime Minister Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzri. On this occasion, the two officials discussed the draft budget law and economic budget for 2026.
Priority to Social Concerns and Structural Reforms
The Head of State emphasized the need to place social concerns at the heart of the upcoming budget, while launching urgent structural reforms of public finances. He estimated that economic balances cannot be reduced to mere numbers, but must be concretely translated into the daily lives of citizens, in all regions of the country.
Lamenting a "heavy legacy" in several sectors, President Saied called for addressing current challenges with a new vision and innovative approaches, in order to ensure sustainable social justice.
Denouncing Dysfunctional Public Services
Kais Saied also denounced the persistent dysfunction in several public services. He warned that anyone who fails to fulfill their responsibilities and considers their function as a mere privilege will be held accountable. "Such a situation cannot continue," he emphasized.
A Visible and Accountable Administration
The President further stated that the Tunisian administration, often described as "deep," is now "well visible," excluding any tolerance for parallel power centers and influence networks within the state. He recalled that the Tunisian people have chosen the path of justice, freedom, and sovereignty, at the cost of considerable sacrifices.
Empowering Tunisian Youth
Finally, President Saied concluded by highlighting the Tunisian youth, whom he designated as "the true engine of the future." He called for removing obstacles to their active participation in national life and providing them with the means to build a Tunisia based on justice, freedom, and national dignity.
"These are not illusions like those of conspirators, but real hopes that will materialize. The expectations of our people will not be disappointed," he assured.
