President Kais Saied Instructs Foreign Minister to Address Second Protest to Foreign Representative
The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, has tasked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, with addressing a second "firmly worded" protest to one of the representatives of a foreign state accredited in Tunisia, two days after a similar move by the presidency.
During his meeting on Thursday, November 27, 2025, with Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti at the Carthage Palace, Kais Saied stated: "A firmly worded protest was addressed two days ago, and you are tasked today with transmitting another, just as firm, to one of the representatives of a foreign state accredited in Tunisia."
The Head of State recalled the importance of respecting diplomatic customs and national sovereignty: "A severe protest must be addressed to anyone who does not respect diplomatic customs, does not respect our country, the sovereignty of our people, and the elementary rules in relations between states. We will not accept it and will never consent to it... Our sovereignty is not a subject of debate and will never be."
The President of the Republic also emphasized that Tunisia is capable of setting examples in terms of rights and freedoms, calling on partners to abandon the "old mentality" that considers Tunisia as a country subject to instructions. He insisted that anyone who wishes to evaluate or advise must first take into account the country's history and the will of its people.
Furthermore, he specified that sovereign decisions made in Tunisia are the exclusive responsibility of the Tunisian state. The choice of this date by certain foreign parties, he added, was "premeditated," but justice has rendered its decision on the same day, affirming that any attempt at confrontation will receive an appropriate response.
The President of the Republic reaffirmed that those who seek to play illusory roles in Tunisia will remain prisoners of their illusions, recalling that Tunisia will never renounce its sovereignty or the will of its people.
It is worth noting that President Kais Saied had summoned Giuseppe Perrone, the European Union Ambassador to Tunisia, on November 25, to the Carthage Palace, to express a strong protest regarding the non-respect of diplomatic work rules and the use of approaches made outside the official frameworks recognized by diplomatic customs, while representing the European Union to the Tunisian state and its official institutions.
