Protest Movement Demands Closure of Oued Limam Landfill
A protest movement was observed on Monday in front of the Kélibia delegation headquarters (Nabeul governorate) to demand the closure of the Oued Limam anarchic landfill. During this demonstration, organized by the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) office in Korba and the Local Labor Union in Kélibia-Hammam Laghzez, protesters called for respect for the right of local residents to a healthy environment and to combat the spread of pollution from informal landfills. The Secretary-General of the Local Labor Union Kélibia-Hammam-Laghzez, Adel Kochti, proposed as an alternative the immediate exploitation of the household waste sorting and processing center, created in the region two years ago at a cost of 1.6 million dinars. For his part, Néjib Bouzakoura, a civil society activist, emphasized the need to put an end to the dumping of waste in Oued Limam, which leads to the spread of respiratory diseases and the degradation of the ecosystem.
