The latest issue of the Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic (JORT), published on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, contains three joint decrees signed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Minister of Health. These decrees grant university status to several medical services belonging to three regional hospitals.
Decree 1 – Regional Hospital of Kef
The university status is awarded to the following departments:
- Ophthalmology
- Emergency Services
- Cardiology
- Hospital Pharmacy
Decree 2 – Regional Hospital of Jendouba
The same university status is granted to:
- Cardiology
- Anesthesia & Intensive Care (Réanimation)
Decree 3 – Regional Hospital of Kébili
University status is conferred on:
- Cardiology
- Orthopedic & Traumatology Surgery

Granting university status enables these medical services to undertake teaching, training, and research missions in collaboration with medical faculties. This move strengthens hospital‑university integration across the regions, fostering a more robust academic and clinical environment.
