Record Number of Algerian Tourists Visit Jendouba Governorate
The three border posts in the Jendouba governorate recorded a record number of Algerian visitors last Friday, with over 13,000 visitors out of a total of 100,000 Algerian tourists who flocked to these posts since the beginning of the month. This represents an increase of over 95% compared to the same period last year.
Since the beginning of this year and until last Saturday, more than 1.5 million Algerian tourists have arrived at the Melloula, Babouche, and El Jellil border posts, according to Regional Tourism Commissioner Issa Marouani. He added that the total number is expected to reach 1.6 million tourists by the end of the year.
During the first ten days of this month, the number of visitors to various tourist units exceeded 4,000, while the number of overnight stays exceeded 7,500. Since January 1, 2025, and until December 10, the number of tourists in various tourist units in Jendouba has exceeded 231,000.
According to witnesses and Algerian tourists, the increase in the number of Algerian visitors via the border posts is due to two main factors. The first factor is the opportunity for a large number of Algerian visitors to benefit from the advantages granted by their government, namely a travel bonus of €750 per year, on condition that they do not return before a week after their departure from their country.
The second factor is the resurgence of tourist activities in the Tabarka and Ain Draham regions, which are a popular destination due to their environmental, natural, health, and sports attractions.
The accommodation capacity in the Jendouba governorate will be strengthened next year with the completion of three ongoing projects (a 5-star hotel and two residences) with a capacity of around 8,000 beds, in addition to the Ouled Hlal tourist zone project, whose development works will be launched after the completion of the studies.
According to administrative reports, investment intentions in the tourism sector in Tabarka for next year exceed 600 million dinars, which will be allocated to the creation of three 5-star hotels, as well as some local and foreign investors who wish to launch projects and take advantage of this orientation to develop the region and enhance its attractions.
