General Administration of Dams and Major Hydraulic Works Begins Compensation Payments

The General Administration of Dams and Major Hydraulic Works started today, Monday, November 10, 2025, to pay the first installment of compensation to owners of agricultural developments surrounding the Bouhertma dam basin, and to repair their damages. This comes as negotiations are still underway regarding the real estate properties that have been decided to be expropriated to complete the Bouhertma dam raising project in the Fernana delegation, Jendouba governorate, as confirmed by several beneficiary farmers to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency. The payment of this first part of the compensation follows a series of negotiations conducted by the General Administration of Dams, the project owner, the inquiry and conciliation commission of the Jendouba governorate, and other stakeholders. The goal was to convince the residents of the dam basin, particularly the owners of agricultural farms, of the value and necessity of expanding the dam and increasing its water reserve capacity from 112 million cubic meters to 140 million cubic meters. According to administrative sources confirming the information to TAP, the list of compensated individuals who have committed not to contest the General Administration of Dams after receiving their financial compensation includes 74 farmers.
