Partial Collapse of Classroom Ceiling at Abdelhamid Ghezouani High School in Fernana
A partial collapse of a classroom ceiling at Abdelhamid Ghezouani High School in Fernana, Jendouba Governorate, resulted in minor injuries to two third-year students (economics and management track) on Monday. The students were taken to the local hospital for treatment and were later discharged with medical clearance, according to Fathi Rehahli, the Regional Delegate for Education, in a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency.
Incident Details
Rehahli specified that the two injured students were released from the hospital and that the Delegation has decided to provide medical and psychological follow-up to all students who were in the classroom at the time of the incident. The classroom was inspected, evacuated, and teaching has been suspended in that room and the rest of the wing pending the results of technical studies conducted by specialists dispatched on the same day.
Investigation Underway
Rehahli noted that the partial collapse was sudden and not preceded by any cracks, fissures, or water infiltration that would have justified evacuating the classroom and taking necessary precautions. The Jendouba judicial police brigade has opened an investigation to determine the cause of the unexpected partial collapse and has referred the case to the public prosecutor's office, which has ordered an investigation.
Background
It is worth noting that Abdelhamid Ghazouani High School, the largest secondary school in the region, was established in 1983. The classroom where the incident occurred, as well as an entire wing, were built just a few years ago.
