Official Ceremony Marks Handover of Equipment for Nabeul Waste Management Project

An official ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Nabeul municipality to mark the handover of equipment as part of the "Sustainable Waste Management Project in Nabeul", funded by the Embassy of Japan in Tunisia. The project, worth 259,525 Tunisian dinars, enabled the acquisition of a truck equipped with a compactor and 164 containers to strengthen waste collection capacities in several neighborhoods of the city.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. OSUGA Takeshi, Ambassador of Japan to Tunisia, Mr. Moez BERRAGCHA, Secretary General of the Nabeul municipality, and Mr. Mohamed Ali CHERIF, President of the Nabeul Association for the Protection of Nature and the Environment (APNE Nabeul), the project's beneficiary.

Signed on December 26, 2024, this donation is part of the Japanese program to support local projects contributing to human security, established in 1996 to support non-profit local development initiatives.

Project Overview

The project directly targets the inhabitants of Cité El Wafa, Habib Thameur Avenue, Habib Bourguiba Avenue, and the Nabeul Corniche, totaling approximately 10,000 people. The handed-over equipment includes:

  • 60 metal containers with a capacity of 770 liters
  • 80 containers with a capacity of 360 liters
  • 24 containers dedicated to selective sorting, to encourage more sustainable and differentiated waste management

Japan's Support to Tunisia

This project is part of a series of interventions supported by Japan in Tunisia, with 141 projects funded since 1996, covering sectors such as education, health, water, and the environment. Recent achievements include:

  • The creation of a medical-social annex in Médenine (2024)
  • The installation of heating systems in 13 primary schools in Jendouba (2023)
  • The development of training centers in Béja and Sousse
