Exceptional Surgical Intervention on Premature Baby from Gaza
A medical team at the Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence, Italy, has successfully performed an extraordinary surgical operation on a premature baby girl from Gaza, born with a rare tumor weighing nearly two kilograms.
According to a statement released by the hospital on Tuesday, the baby was born at 33 weeks of gestation and weighed only 1.5 kg at birth. Transferred from Gaza to Italy for treatment, she presented a rare tumor located at the base of the spine.
The operation, carried out by a multidisciplinary team, allowed for the complete removal of the tumor mass, which weighed more than the baby girl herself. The hospital specified that the patient's health, now 28 days old, has significantly improved, and she is currently undergoing convalescence in the neonatal intensive care unit.
The baby girl's family was welcomed in Italy on the night of September 29, accompanying the child throughout her medical transfer. This intervention, hailed by the medical community, illustrates the humanitarian and medical cooperation between Italy and the Palestinian territories, enabling children with severe illnesses to access cutting-edge care.
