Italian President Sergio Mattarella Condemns Inhumane Situation of Children in Gaza
Italian President Sergio Mattarella stated on Monday, September 15, 2025, that the inhumane situation of children in the Gaza Strip is intolerable due to the ongoing Israeli aggression in the territory since October 7, 2023. He emphasized that this situation represents a burden that the international community cannot bear.
Situation in Gaza
During the Borgio Award ceremony, which recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to protecting children's dignity, President Mattarella highlighted the inhumane and unsolvable situation of children dying from hunger, even when admitted to hospitals. These hospitals, which are the only possible aid against malnutrition, are often destroyed by bombings in Gaza.
Threats to Children's Rights
He explained that children's rights are constantly threatened and often violated, not only in areas of aggression but also globally. He noted that the world is facing a genuine humanitarian emergency that particularly affects children.
Humanitarian Crisis
It is estimated that out of the approximately 60,000 civilians killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, at least 20,000 are children, victims of Israeli aggression.
Ongoing Aggression
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli entity has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, including murders, famine, destruction, displacement, and arrests, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to put an end to it.
