Families of Four Children from Gabès Governorate Appeal to Tunisian Authorities for Urgent Intervention
The families of four children from the Gabès governorate have launched an urgent appeal to the Tunisian authorities to intervene following the disappearance of their sons abroad, after they left the country.
Details of the Disappearance
The families specified that they received a notice indicating that the children are currently at the port of Istanbul, Turkey, on board a ship. The local authorities on the spot requested the intervention of the Tunisian consulate to take charge of them and ensure their return to Tunisia within a period not exceeding four hours from the time of notification.
A Foiled Clandestine Journey
According to a video circulating on Facebook, the children stated that they had boarded a cargo ship clandestinely with the aim of irregularly migrating to Italy. However, they were surprised to find themselves in Turkey. They claimed to have turned themselves in to the Turkish authorities after spending two days in the country.
An Appeal for the Protection of Minors
The families emphasized that the children are minors, which requires immediate action from the competent consular services to guarantee their safety and return as soon as possible. They expressed their confidence in the commitment of the Tunisian state to protect its citizens abroad, particularly the youngest ones, according to the IFM correspondent.
