Council of Experts Confirms New Supreme Leader of Iran
The Council of Experts of the Islamic Republic of Iran confirmed on Sunday evening, March 8 2026, the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei, son of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as the country’s new Supreme Leader.
The announcement was carried by several official Iranian media outlets, marking a historic turning point in Iran’s political and religious leadership.
This decision comes shortly after the death of Ali Khamenei and confirms the information released by the Council of Experts, the body responsible for selecting the Supreme Leader.
According to Iranian media, Mojtaba Khamenei has been designated to continue the state’s direction, in continuity with the work of his father and Ayatollah Khomeini.
