International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Tunisia Assists 1,760 Returnees in 2025
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Tunisia helped 1,760 migrants return to their countries of origin during 2025, offering them a fresh departure opportunity through personalised reintegration schemes tailored to each individual’s profile, according to a post on the organisation’s official Facebook page.
Tailored Reintegration Programme
IOM emphasised that the reintegration programme is designed around the needs, skills and aspirations of every beneficiary. Its goal is to enable returnees to build a better future marked by dignity and stability, while fostering:
- Autonomy
- Economic integration
- Social integration
Sectors Supported
The initiative backs a wide range of activities that generate income and promote self‑reliance, especially in rural areas:
| Sector | Examples of Supported Activities |
|---|---|
| Agriculture & Livestock | Crop production, animal husbandry – aimed at strengthening food security and rural earnings |
| Commerce & Small‑Business Creation | Local shops, micro‑enterprises, general trade – facilitating smoother reintegration |
| Culinary Projects | Home‑based traditional cooking initiatives |
| Transport Services | Small transport enterprises, logistics |
| Education & Vocational Training | Skills‑building programmes to boost employability |
| Creative & Technical Trades | Tailoring, beauty services, digital services, technical occupations |
Voluntary Return & Safe Migration
In addition to the 1,760 returnees who received personalised reintegration support, 8,853 migrants were assisted throughout 2025 to return safely to their home countries under the Voluntary Return and Reintegration (VRR) programme. IOM highlighted that this programme is part of a broader strategy to promote safe, orderly migration, ensuring that returnees receive adequate assistance for social and economic reintegration in their countries of origin.
