The "Ta'ziz" Project and its "Lem7ata" Campaign Highlight the Role of Local Associations in Tunisia's Social and Economic Development
The Press — As part of the "Ta'ziz" project, aimed at supporting the sustainability and empowerment of civil society in Tunisia and funded by the European Union and the Canadian Embassy, the Laboratory of Social and Solidarity Economy (Lab'ess) is launching the "Lem7ata" campaign. This communication initiative aims to tell positive and concrete stories about the engagement of local associations and their impact on citizens' daily lives.
Strengthening the Economy and Society through Civil Society
Since its implementation in 2024, "Ta'ziz" has been accompanying Tunisian civil society organizations to improve their resilience, governance, and financial autonomy. Led by "Lab'ess" and in collaboration with the El Kawakibi Center for Democratic Transition, the project contributes to building a more inclusive, sustainable, and participatory environment, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). After a first phase focused on training, support, and funding of high-impact associations, "Ta'ziz" is now moving on to a stage of valorization and promotion of their initiatives. The "Lem7ata" campaign, which means "the station," symbolizes a meeting place between citizens, associations, and institutions. Through videos broadcast on social media, this initiative highlights inspiring projects and testimonials of engagement within the Tunisian associative fabric. "With Lem7ata, we want to show civil society from a different angle, by valorizing its successes, creativity, and concrete impact on citizens," emphasizes Sarra Makhlouf, project manager at Lab'ess.
A Public Launch in Tunis
To officially launch the campaign, a public event will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, on the Place Barcelone, in front of the Tunis train station. This meeting will bring together associations, citizens, and institutional partners, offering stands, participatory workshops, and artistic animations to discover the concrete action of civil society on the ground. It is worth recalling that "Ta'ziz," launched in May 2024, aims to sustainably strengthen Tunisian civil society by combining capacity building, funding, networking, and promotion of local initiatives. The project is part of the global mission of "Lab'ess," which works for a more just, equitable, and sustainable society. Since its creation in 2012, "Lab'ess" has been a key player in social innovation in Tunisia. It accompanies and funds initiatives that serve the general interest in the Mena region. More than 2,000 associations and social entrepreneurs have already benefited from its support, making "Lab'ess" a catalyst for change and a central actor in the social and solidarity economy.
