UN Alliance of Civilizations Forum: Tunisia Calls for a New Era of Mutual Respect and Understanding
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, participated in the 11th session of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Forum, held in Riyadh on December 14-15, 2025. During the general debate, Nafti delivered a speech on behalf of Tunisia, highlighting the country's vision for a new era of mutual respect and understanding among nations.
A New Era of Alliance for Humanity
Nafti emphasized that the current phase requires a shift from a simple "alliance between civilizations" to an "alliance for humanity," prioritizing human dignity and human rights. This approach, as expressed by President Kaïs Saïed, places the human being at the heart of public policies and consacres universal values, such as those enshrined in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Promoting Equality and Development
The minister stressed that this new alliance should promote equality among peoples, bring them closer together, and guarantee their right to development, freedom, and sovereignty. He also highlighted the importance of addressing the Palestinian question, considered the deepest wound in the international justice system, and called for a clear international position to restore the primacy of international humanitarian law and ensure the Palestinian people's inalienable rights.
Rebuilding Communication and Promoting Cultural Dialogue
Nafti noted that the Alliance has a historic opportunity to rebuild communication channels between peoples, develop new tools for cultural dialogue, and strengthen the role of young people and women in shaping international relations. He also emphasized the need to integrate the digital dimension into the Alliance's efforts, given the direct impact of the digital environment on public opinion formation.
Securing the Digital Space and Promoting Tolerance
The minister stressed the importance of developing new mechanisms to secure the digital space and promote tolerance, rather than hate speech and disinformation. He concluded his speech by reaffirming Tunisia's commitment to supporting the Alliance's process and working with international partners to establish a more just and balanced world order, founded on respect for cultural diversity, promotion of dialogue, and contribution to preserving international peace and security.
Consensus on the Final Communiqué
The final communiqué of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Forum, adopted by consensus, welcomed the international colloquium hosted by Tunisia on November 17, 2025, on the theme "Activating the Role of the UN Alliance of Civilizations in Supporting International Peace and Security." The communiqué reflected the participants' commitment to promoting mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation among nations, and to addressing the challenges facing the international community.
