National Food Safety Authority Stresses Need for Approval from Competent Authorities
The National Food Safety Authority emphasized today, in a statement published on Friday, the necessity for all food processing plant owners to obtain approval from the competent authorities to exercise this activity. This measure is part of the efforts to strengthen food safety and protect consumers.
Regularization of Situation and Compliance with Regulations
The Agency added that those who wish to continue their activities must regularize their situation as soon as possible and comply with the legal and technical aspects, including informing the Agency in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Health on March 11, 2025. This decision requires all companies operating in the food and animal feed sectors to inform the Agency of their activity, establish a self-monitoring program, and respect good food safety practices.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
The Agency also specified that any infringement of these regulations is considered a violation of the food safety principle and exposes the perpetrator to administrative and criminal prosecution, in accordance with Law No. 25 of 2019 related to food safety.
Call to Citizens to Respect Food Safety Requirements
Finally, the Agency called on all citizens to respect food safety requirements when handling food at home and at all stages of preparation, packaging, storage, and transportation. It also urged citizens to refrain from buying and handling food products in unauthorized places.
