Tunisian Actor Mohamed Mrad Speaks Out After Release from Israeli Detention
Tunisian actor Mohamed Mrad, recently released after being arrested by Israeli forces during the interception of the Soumoud flotilla in international waters, has stated that the true heroes are the people of Gaza. In a live interview on the official Soumoud flotilla Facebook page on Saturday, October 4, 2025, he emphasized that he and the other activists do not consider themselves heroes.
Mrad recounted the tense moments experienced during their abduction in international waters, denouncing the violence and provocations suffered at the hands of Israeli forces. He expressed his deep disappointment at not being able to reach the Gaza Strip, explaining that the announcement of their arrest was a great disappointment. "It was a great disappointment when we learned that we would be arrested. We tried everything to continue, but the decision was made," he stressed.
Mrad also apologized to the people of Gaza for their inability to break the siege, while hoping that this initiative will pave the way for other humanitarian actions. The actor also thanked the Tunisian people, as well as the security forces and the National Guard, for their support throughout this mission.
Meanwhile, the Soumoud flotilla published a statement calling on all free Tunisians and supporters of the Palestinian cause to mobilize to welcome the released activists this Sunday, October 5, at 4:00 PM at Tunis-Carthage International Airport. This first wave of released activists marks an important step in the humanitarian struggle led by the Soumoud flotilla, despite the many obstacles encountered at sea. Tensions remain high around the situation in Gaza, where the population continues to suffer from a severe humanitarian siege.
