Minister of Equipment and Housing Announces Launch of 1,000 New Homes in 2026

The Minister of Equipment and Housing, Slah Zouari, announced on Sunday evening that a total of 1,000 new homes will be launched in 2026 under the rent-to-own program for low-income employees.

Social Housing Program

The minister stated that the second phase of the social housing program will comprise around 5,000 new units, with calls for tenders for 3,100 homes ready to be launched in January 2026. According to Zouari, 1,800 units will be launched in the first quarter of 2026, and 1,900 more will be launched in the second half of the year after the completion of the tender procedures.

Rural Roads and Flood Protection

The minister also mentioned that:

  • The ministry has received requests for intervention on approximately 60,000 kilometers of rural roads, with the ministry having already intervened on around 28,000 kilometers.
  • Efforts are ongoing to mobilize the necessary funding to launch a new phase of intervention covering 21 governorates.
  • 32 projects worth 440 million dinars are currently underway to protect cities from flooding, with three new projects worth 213 million dinars to be added in 2026.

Coastal Erosion and Urban Rehabilitation

The minister announced that:

  • The project to protect the coastline at Rejiche and Salakta (Mahdia) will continue, with 9.5 million dinars allocated for 2026, in addition to 4.5 million dinars for the second phase of the project.
  • Around 160 neighborhoods are concerned by the second generation of the urban rehabilitation program, with a cost exceeding 800 million dinars.
  • Work has been completed in 26 neighborhoods, 48 are ongoing, 29 will start in 2026, and studies for 58 neighborhoods will be finalized for immediate launch.

Future Plans

The minister indicated that the ministry is already considering the launch of the third generation of the urban rehabilitation program, with initial consultations having begun with funding agencies.
